Description

Standing about 6'2", this dirty blond man looks like he's built for a life of manual labor. His face is square, his light eyes sunken under a deep brow. His hair is straight and usually combed back over his head, or tucked under a baseball cap. It looks like he's just starting to grow out a beard under his thick nose, the hair coming in full and thick, though relatively well-trimmed.

His body is stout and square, broad shoulders supporting thick arms, perched on top of an even thicker middle. He's usually wearing jeans, a tshirt, and work boots, though when he's not at work he sometimes wears nicer clothes.

Background

Jake Eriksen's life was the kind that no one would write a story about.

Jake was born the middle child of three to a Protestant family. His parents both worked to support the family, leaving Jake and his two brothers as latchkey kids. He was raised on 90s cartoons and cable TV. Jake was in middle school when his parents got divorced, and they've been bouncing between two mildly bitter households ever since.

Jake did average in school. He wasn't exceptional, not having the mind nor the motivation to really excel, but he didn't flunk out either. He graduated high school at the status quo, but between his family's lack of money and his lack of aspirations, he never pursued college. Instead, he followed his dad into construction, working in the same company as his father and older brother.

Currently, Jake lives in a one-bedroom apartment with his high school sweetheart, Laura. They get along well enough, although Laura hides her resentment of the fact that Jake never pursued anything high school, leaving them to wallow in a lower-middle class life, leaving her to with little to do all day in their tiny apartment. Jake's life is completely unexciting. He goes to work, he comes home, he watches TV with a beer and his girlfriend. Up until the day when there was an accident at work.

No one's figured out yet why part of the house's foundation collapsed, but it resulted in one whole half of the house dropping onto four workers, crushing them under plaster, wood, and debris. All three of the workers survived, with trivial cuts or hairline fractures. Except for Jake. It took until he got home before he realized that he didn't have a single scratch on him. Being the down-to-earth, no nonsense kind of guy he is, he quickly brushed it off as some kind of coincidence, or at worst a blessing from God. However, something about this is sticking in the back of his mind… Why didn't he get hurt?

Skills

• CONSTRUCTION: Jake knows his way about power tools and heavy construction equipment. He's also experienced in running wiring and piping throughout a house. Given the right tools and materials and blueprints, Jake could build a house from the ground up. He's most experienced in domestic homes, but he's learning the ropes in building other things like apartment buildings and skyscrapers.
• CARS: Jake has a '69 Mustang back at his dad's place that he's working on rebuilding with his dad and older brother. It's mostly finished, save for needing a replacement engine, a paintjob, a reupholstering, and other odds and ends. Jake's experience working on this car and the other third-hand models he and his friends have driven has given him moderate experience with fixing up vehicles.
• FOOTBALL: Jake was a wide receiver on his high school team, and he still likes to toss around the ball and play impromptu games with his friends in a park every once in a while.
